HEY – Get Your Priorities Straight!

HEY – Get Your Priorities Straight!
by Kelly Woodcox

Let’s look at three important things that can help you have fulfillment in your day. First of all from the time you get up until the time you go to bed you must have JESUS in your day (don’t worry he’ll be with you while you sleep too). A lot of us get up and the first thing we do is dread. We dread getting out of bed, finding clothes for the day, making breakfast, cleaning up breakfast, going to work, or “whatever” it may be. Instead we should be waking up and spending those few minutes with God. God will get you ready for your day if you just ask Him. He will stick by you all day long if you agree to let Him. This is the first commandment to love God with all your heart…

Deu 6:5 And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might .

Deu 11:1 Therefore thou shalt love the LORD thy God, and keep his charge, and his statutes, and his judgments, and his commandments, always.

Deu 11:13 And it shall come to pass, if ye shall hearken diligently unto my commandments which I command you this day, to love the LORD your God, and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul,

If you vow to serve God every minute of your day and life, He will give you the time to get the things done that He wants you to do.

So if you’re thinking “I’m too busy” well, then you are not prioritizing.

God will not give us more than we can handle. But no matter what we ARE to put Him first and the rest will follow.

Another thing is He wants us to Love our neighbors…OTHERS

Lev 19:18
Thou shalt not avenge, nor bear any grudge against the children of thy people, but thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself: I [am] the LORD.

Mat 22:37
Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.

Mat 22:38
This is the first and great commandment.

Mat 22:39
And the second [is] like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

It doesn’t mean “Hey everyone look at me and appreciate me for what I’m doing for you and for God”. We shouldn’t have a “LOOK AT ME ATTITUDE” that is selfishness.

Eph 2:8
For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: [it is] the gift of God:

Eph 2:9
Not of works, lest any man should boast.

Eph 2:10
For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

Mat 7:12
Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets.

Mat 7:12, otherwise known to us as “the golden rule”.

When we wonder “what love your neighbor really means” we need to look at what Jesus said when HE was asked this question…

Luk 10:30
And Jesus answering said, A certain [man] went down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among thieves, which stripped him of his raiment, and wounded [him], and departed, leaving [him] half dead.

Luk 10:31
And by chance there came down a certain priest that way: and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side.

Luk 10:32
And likewise a Levite, when he was at the place, came and looked [on him], and passed by on the other side.

Luk 10:33
But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was: and when he saw him, he had compassion [on him],

Luk 10:34
And went to [him], and bound up his wounds, pouring in oil and wine, and set him on his own beast, and brought him to an inn, and took care of him.

Luk 10:35
And on the morrow when he departed, he took out two pence, and gave [them] to the host, and said unto him, Take care of him; and whatsoever thou spendest more, when I come again, I will repay thee.

Luk 10:36
Which now of these three, thinkest thou, was neighbour unto him that fell among the thieves?

Luk 10:37
And he said, He that shewed mercy on him. Then said Jesus unto him, Go, and do thou likewise.

We need to ask ourselves; How many times do we “look away” or “try to ignore” what is going on around us?

Somewhere in our soul [our mind] we are programmed to “pretend we don’t see it”. We can actually convince ourselves (without even trying) that we don’t see it by saying, “someone else will take care of it” someone else that is not as busy as I am!!!!

It becomes almost as easy for us to ignore people’s needs as it is for us to ignore an ant crossing the sidewalk…

It becomes ordinary to us.

Think about this! Pray that God will open your eyes and hearts to do His will in caring for others. They don’t have to be lying on the sidewalk bleeding. They might just need to know you pray for them.

Now let’s take a look at YOU.

I’m not talking about “Calgon take me away” or ” your me time, melt down, get me away from all this” although that certainly is important!

AND YES you are important. But what I’m talking about is “your calling”. God created you for Him and for His purpose. So as we do many times (or at least should) we’ll look at Romans 8:28…

Rom 8:28
And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to [his] purpose.

When we are looking at ourselves we need to be looking to God for “OUR PURPOSE”. We need to be working on “our calling” for Him.

Once again, this points to seeking God with all your heart to find out your purpose (your calling). How do we do that???????

WELL…

Jer 29:11
For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.

Jer 29:12
Then shall ye call upon me, and ye shall go and pray unto me, and I will hearken unto you.

Jer 29:13
And ye shall seek me, and find [me], when ye shall search for me with all your heart.

If you haven’t heard or read these verses hear and read them now.

Seek God…

Although all things are possible with God this doesn’t mean if you concentrate really hard you will be “beamed up” and be able shake His hand and say “hey what’s up”.

What it means is what it says! Pray unto God, search God with all your heart [your spirit] and you will find Him.

The praying part is pretty clear. The searching part is where a lot of people fall.

It means: Get to know God…

and how do we get to know God??

Read His Word. Yes Read Your Bible. This all takes us back to the first thing in this letter, starting with JESUS.

When we take these three things and prioritize them JESUS, OTHERS, YOU… what do we have?

J.O.Y.

I didn’t invent this wheel and I’ve never actually had it explained to me, but I have been inspired to get into God’s word about it and to re-address it.

So with that, Let the JOY of the Lord be your strength! Joy doesn’t always mean giddy and happy…but it does mean relying on God through tough times.

The JOY is the strength that comes from the Lord to face what we call “life happens”!

Jam 1:2
My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations;

Don’t let satan steal your joy by keeping you “too busy” to read your bible and spend time with God or “too busy” to meet the needs of those that need you or keeping you “too busy” for your calling for God’s true purpose in your life!

He has no right to steal your joy!

When people were weaping after they heard the law of the Lord, here is what was said.

Neh 8:10
Then he said unto them, Go your way, eat the fat, and drink the sweet, and send portions unto them for whom nothing is prepared: for [this] day [is] holy unto our Lord: neither be ye sorry; for the joy of the LORD is your strength.

Phl 4:4
Rejoice in the Lord always: [and] again I say, Rejoice.

I believe that he repeated the word “rejoice” was because when he said “always”, he knew that people would think “well what about when things are bad”. So he repeated it saying, AGAIN I say rejoice because he meant ALWAYS.

We can lose it all but gain everything when it comes to the day we will be joined with Christ!
